Palembang, UpdateKini – A golden opportunity has opened for students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang (UMP) and other campuses in the city to pursue careers in Japan. Japanese manpower provider SUM Technology Co., Ltd. visited UMP on Tuesday (September 16, 2025) to explore recruitment programs for young Indonesian talents.
This initiative goes beyond a ceremonial visit. SUM Technology aims to connect Indonesian students with leading companies in Japan. According to Syamsul Arifin, Director of Engineering and Human Resources at SUM Technology, the partnership is designed as a gateway for Indonesian youth to build international careers.
“We want to open the path for students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang to pursue careers in Japan. SUM Technology is here to bridge the needs of Japanese industries with young Indonesian talents. We believe diversity is a strength that will bring mutual progress,” he explained.
The demand for foreign workers in Japan has been steadily rising. Data from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo shows that by 2024, 199,824 Indonesian citizens were already working in Japan, spread across industries such as manufacturing, construction, healthcare, and food services.
“Japanese companies are increasingly in urgent need of human resources with diverse competencies. This is certainly a great opportunity for Indonesian graduates to develop their careers,” Syamsul added.
Meanwhile, UMP Rector Prof. Dr. Abid Djazuli, S.E., M.M., emphasized that the collaboration is in line with the university’s mission to prepare globally competitive graduates.
“The visit of SUM Technology is a valuable opportunity for our students. It will motivate them to improve their competencies, particularly in language and professional skills, so they can compete at the international level,” he said.
“We are preparing graduates who are truly ready to build careers on the global stage,” he concluded.
In addition to recruitment, the discussion also highlighted training programs to help students get ready for Japan’s workforce. These include mastering the Japanese language, understanding work culture, and strengthening technical skills.
