Palembang, UpdateKini – PT PLN (Persero) reaffirmed its strong commitment to driving the clean energy transition while accelerating equal electricity access in South Sumatra. This commitment was conveyed during the working visit of the Electricity Working Committee (Panja) of Commission XII DPR RI held on Thursday (11/9/2025), at Hotel Novotel Palembang.
The visit was led by Deputy Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI, Sugeng Suparwoto, along with members of the commission, and attended by key energy stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), the South Sumatra Provincial Government, and PLN.
PLN Ready to Face the Energy Transition
PLN’s Director of Risk Management, Adi Lumakso, emphasized PLN’s readiness to tackle the dual challenges of energy transition and ensuring electricity access to remote villages.
“The potential for power generation in Sumatra is enormous, ranging from hydropower, wind, geothermal, biomass, to floating solar plants, with a total of 17.4 MW. With a peak load of 1,024 MW and available capacity reaching 3,412 MW, South Sumatra is well-positioned to achieve energy self-sufficiency,” said Adi.
Renewable Energy Mix in South Sumatra Reaches 23%
Head of the South Sumatra MEMR Office, Hendriansyah, revealed that the province’s renewable energy mix has already reached 23%, supported by solar power plants, geothermal energy, and biomass from palm oil mills’ excess production. He also noted that proposals for communal solar PV plants for coastal villages not yet connected to the grid have been submitted to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Electrification Remains a Priority
PLN stressed that the journey toward clean energy must go hand in hand with equal access to electricity. This was echoed by Deputy Regent of Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), Supriyanto, SH, who highlighted the urgent need to accelerate electrification in his region.
“OKI, with nearly 800 thousand residents, still faces electrification challenges. There are 21 villages in coastal and peatland areas that remain without electricity. Bringing power to these communities will significantly improve people’s quality of life,” said Supriyanto.
Commitment from DPR RI
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI, Sugeng Suparwoto, underscored that electricity has become a primary necessity for society. He reaffirmed DPR’s commitment to oversee the acceleration of equal energy access with strict monitoring to ensure progress is achieved.
United for a Clean Energy Future
Through this meeting on September 11, 2025, PLN, DPR RI, MEMR, and local governments agreed to strengthen collaboration in accelerating electricity access while harnessing South Sumatra’s abundant renewable energy potential, paving the way toward a sustainable and clean energy future.
