Pangkalpinang, UpdateKini – The shift from self-operated power plants to PLN electricity has brought major changes for the tin industry in Bangka Belitung. PT Mitra Stania Prima (MSP) recorded significant improvements in production efficiency while also cutting operational costs.
MSP’s Operations Director, An Sudarno, explained that relying on generators previously inflated production costs and caused unstable quality. Since switching to PLN electricity with an installed capacity of 5.7 megawatts (MW), the company’s production process has become more efficient and stable.
“After moving to PLN electricity, our production performance has improved significantly. We are even planning to increase capacity to further boost productivity,” said Sudarno on Tuesday (September 23, 2025).
Beyond efficiency, MSP has also utilized PLN’s Renewable Energy Certificate (REC). This green instrument not only adds strategic value but has also enabled the company to earn PROPER Green awards twice in a row for its Smelter unit (2023 & 2024) and once for the Mapur Mine (2024).
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasized that PLN’s reliable electricity combined with green instruments like REC helps strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian industries in the global market. “PLN doesn’t just deliver reliable power; we also provide green products to support the national energy transition while enhancing industrial competitiveness,” Darmawan explained.
Looking ahead, PLN’s collaboration with industries is projected not only to reduce production costs but also to create new job opportunities and strengthen both local and national economies. PLN’s General Manager for Bangka Belitung Region, Ira Savitri, added that MSP’s success should inspire other industrial players.
“MSP has proven that switching to PLN electricity delivers multiple benefits. We are ready to meet any additional power needs whenever required,” Ira affirmed.
This efficiency milestone also lays the groundwork for MSP’s ambitious next target: securing a PROPER Gold rating and becoming the first environmentally friendly tin company in Southeast Asia.
