Palembang, UpdateKini – The Indonesian Islamic Students Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam / HMI) Palembang Branch has reaffirmed its commitment to stand by the people, especially marginalized communities often left behind in the pursuit of justice. Through the Legal Seminar on Synergy Between Government, Academics, Law Enforcement, Legal Aid, and HMI, held Monday (Sept 15, 2025), HMI officially launched a Legal Aid Post to assist residents until their cases are resolved.

Chairman of HMI Palembang, Bayu Pratama, emphasized that low-income communities must receive stronger legal protection.

“So that they can truly obtain justice from both the government and the law itself,” he said.

HMI has established the Legal Consultation and Aid Institute (LKBH) as a public reporting hub. Whenever citizens report legal issues, HMI will immediately deploy its team to provide direct assistance.

“Our message to Palembang citizens: never stay silent when facing injustice. Report it! The government must not turn a blind eye to the struggles of the poor who deserve equal rights to justice and human rights,” Bayu asserted.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bambang Sugianto, SH, MH, lecturer at STIH Sumpah Pemuda, underlined the government’s obligation to be present in legal enforcement, especially for the urban poor living in the outskirts of Palembang.

“They also deserve proper education and healthcare. Moving forward, HMI Palembang together with universities will continue to assist in fighting for justice and basic rights for poor and marginalized communities,” he explained.

With synergy between the government, academia, law enforcement, legal aid institutions, and HMI, access to justice in Palembang is expected to expand—ensuring that even the most vulnerable communities are not left behind.
